On behalf of the Alberta World Cup Academy, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to Joey’s family, friends and many teammates within the tight-knit skiing community, following the unexpected passing of Joey last week.
Joey was very close with many members of the ski community, including current and former AWCA athletes. Joey was fun to be around, a great teammate and a fantastic human being who will be missed by everyone who knew him. Joey trained and raced with the Academy team for 3 years from 2009 to 2012.
Patrick Stewart-Jones, Academy member recalls competing alongside Joey and being thrilled at traveling overseas with him for their first taste of euro racing. Together with Andy Shields and Zach Holland, Patrick and Joey were 16th in the Men’s Relay Team while participating at the FIS Junior World Championships in Germany. Joey also got a notable top 30 performance at the 10km classic race of that same event.
