The Board of Directors of the Alberta World Cup Society (AWCS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Hicks as President.
Andrew has been actively involved in cross-country skiing for many years and has been an active member of the AWCS since 2009. He originally served on the AWCS Board as Treasurer from 2009 until 2015. During that time, he was a member of the Organizing Committees for the 2010 and 2012 World Cups and was part of the original bid team for Ski Tour Canada 2016. He is a Level 3 CCC Official and has been Chief of Competition at numerous Alberta Cup races as well as the 2011 National Championships. He is excited to re-join the AWCS Board and again contribute to the AWCS’s mandate.
Welcome Andrew!
The Board of Directors wishes to express its appreciation to Norbert Meier who served the Society for 8 years as President. Norbert’s tireless efforts in promoting Canmore as a world class venue for cross-country skiing World Cups have resulted in the Society hosting five highly successful World Cups, creating a legacy for the sport and contributing to its growth in the province of Alberta. Under his leadership, the Alpine Insurance Alberta World Cup Academy has expanded its operations to include a Training Centre in Calgary to allow athletes to combine education and high performance training in the sport. Norbert will continue to lead the Events portfolio for the Society and we look forward to many more World Cups being hosted in Canmore.
The Alberta World Cup Society continues to promote its mandate of developing and growing cross-country skiing in Alberta through hosting World Cup races and by providing resources for the development of officials, coaches and athletes. All these activities are made possible with the involvement of tireless volunteers who dedicate their time in different capacities to make this possible.
