The Alberta World Cup Academy (AWCA) is a vibrant, inclusive National Training Centre that exists to develop world-class and world-leading cross-country ski racers and citizens for Canada.

The AWCA aims to become the go-to program in Canada for the development of high performance Nordic racers by offering:

  • Full Athlete Development
  • Year Round Training opportunities
  • Full-time, year round high performance coaches with a proven track record in excellence
  • Individualized training programs
  • Train & Study program
  • Summer programming for athletes training individually or with other clubs / training centres
  • The AWCA aspires to provide cost-effective opportunities to those athletes who show the potential to become internationally successful.

The AWCA volunteer board, staff, and supporters partner with Nordiq Canada, Nordiq Alberta, and the high performance ski community in Canada (including the Canadian Sport Institute Calgary, WinSport, and the various provincial and local clubs and organizations) to create an inclusive and supportive cross country ski program.

The AWCA program was started in 2008 in recognition of a need for better programming for senior level athletes in Canada. It was immediately successful and has continued to grow, with many of its athletes graduating to the National Team, as well as representing Canada  at the Winter Olympic Games since 2010.

VISION

Athletes, Coaches and Officials from the Alberta World Cup Academy will be recognized as leaders & contributors to Canada’s national cross-country ski program, competing with the best in the world.

MISSION

To initiate and augment development opportunities in Alberta that target nationally competitive Athletes, Coaches and Officials, preparing them for subsequent levels of success.
The Academy will:

  • Deliver an athlete development system that supplements existing local, regional and national programs
  • Develop new long term coaching apprenticeship opportunities
  • Expand development opportunities for officials

The Alberta World Cup Society has proven its organizational excellence and is providing access to sport science and medical services, high performance hosting, coaching, and competitive experiences.
