Mark Arendz will lead the Canadian contingent this year at the IPC World Championships in Cable, Wisconsin.
Arendz, who already has 17 world cup medals to his credit, will compete in both para-biathlon and para-cross-country ski races.
“My plan is to focus on the three biathlon races and try the two cross-country races at the end,” Arendz said fresh off a 20-kilometre ski at Canadian Western Championships in Canmore on Sunday (Jan. 18).
Arendz said his plan all year has been to peak for world championships, and he’s confident he’s ready to take on what looks like a deep field in Wisconsin.
“Today’s race hurts, but it will come around. I’m excited to test my shape against the best in the world. Every year there are little improvements. I keep improving and that’s what’s fun about this,” Arendz said. “It’s going to be a tough field – really deep – and you’ve gotta be on to take the win.”
Arendz isn’t revealing his medal expectations, although he’ll be a threat in every race he enters, but biathlon is his main focus.
