Sun Smiles on Academy Glacier Camp Jul 22nd, 2009

The Alberta World Cup Academy returned Monday from a successful seven day training camp at the Haig Glacier in Kananaskis Country. Despite rain in the first two days of the camp the weather and conditions were perfect for the final five days of training.

The Haig Glacier camp is situated at about 2400m above sea-level with skiing at 2800m. The high altitude combined with what for most athletes was the biggest training week of the year meant that is was a very hard week. Energy levels remained high and athletes now have a few weeks of lighter training loads in Canmore before the next training camp in Whistler beginning on August 9th.

To keep the team occupied when not training Jess Cockney organized the 2nd Annual Las Haigas Glacier Resort Disc Golf tournament. Chris Butler brought home the win for the second year in a row and claimed the trophy prize at the final night's reception dinner organized by Kevin Sandau.

A big thank you to John and Jody who took great care of the team with great food and grooming to ensure a fantastic week of training.
