Hello Everyone,
Thank you for volunteering for the World Cup - it's going to be a great event! The count-down is on – only two weeks to go!!
Below are some details which you need to know, so please read on. I apologize that it is rather a long email.
Parking Passes
Parking at the Nordic Centre during the World Cup in February is extremely limited. Security will permit only those volunteers with a World Cup parking pass to park on site. It may be possible to park on one side of Spray Lakes Road, but again parking is quite limited there.
We strongly urge you to carpool with others in your volunteer team, or to take the free shuttle bus which will be running from downtown.
Please contact me at the earliest opportunity if you require a parking pass. There will be a refundable deposit of $5 payable when you pick up your pass.
Shuttle Bus Service
The Town of Canmore and Brewster Inc. will be providing a service with three routes:
- Downtown to the Canmore Nordic
(Note: the Downtown pick-up and drop-off area is behind Tourism Canmore-Kananaskis, opposite the Civic Centre on 7th Avenue)
- Palliser Parking to Downtown.
(Note: Palliser Parking is the large open area on Palliser Trail, across from Silver Tip Trail and the Hotel of the Rockies, which was formerly the Four Points Sheraton)
- Additional Express Service from Palliser to the Canmore Nordic Centre will be available on Saturday morning.
- Detailed parking and shuttle information, including hours of operation - here
- Team / athlete shuttles can be used by volunteers for transportation to the Nordic Centre in the early hours of the morning (before regular shuttles start). Pick-up locations are at the Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge and the Radisson.
Friday, February 5th
- The route will be from Downtown to CNC only.
- Bus service will begin at 9:00 am and end at 3:30 pm.
- 2 buses on a continuous rotation, approximately every 20 minutes.
Saturday, February 6th
- Bus service from Palliser to Downtown - begins at 8:00 am and ends at 5:30 pm.
- Bus service from Downtown to Canmore Nordic Centre - begins at 8:00 am and ends at 5:30 pm.
- Express Bus service from Palliser to Canmore Nordic Centre - begins at 9:00 am and runs until 11:30 am only.
- All routes will be a Continuous Service and based on demand. Frequency would be approximately every 15 minutes during peak and every 30 minutes during the race times.
World Cup Jackets
If you do not have a World Cup jacket, please contact Linda Dunbar at skilinda@shaw.ca to request one. It is important for all outside volunteers (e.g. Stadium, Course and Timers) to have a jacket.
You don't have to buy the jacket if you don't want to - you can use it for the event and then return it afterwards. If you are borrowing the jacket and not purchasing it, you will be asked to sign a loan agreement at the time you pick the jacket up, and the jacket will be signed off by a volunteer services official when you return it at the end of the event.

- Medals to the winners will be presented each day, downtown at the Canmore Civic Centre at 4:30 pm.
- The Town is arranging for several events to take place downtown which will be publicized in the local media.
- A special "Passport" program is being established that will allow you to receive a variety of discounts, food, and miscellaneous items from various merchants taking part in the program. These will be available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and again, more details will be available through local media, the World Cup website at http://www.albertaworldcup.com/main.php?p=2 and the Town of Canmore website at http://www.canmore.ca/.
- The Nordic Centre has been making snow that will be trucked downtown to set up a short course on Main Street. There will be special events occurring downtown and you are encouraged to take them in. On Sunday February 7, the Town is arranging a pancake breakfast and a special send off for athletes from the Bow Valley who are heading off to the Olympics. Plan on participating if you can!
- The Alberta World Cup Organizing Committee is pleased to partner with the Bow Valley Food Bank. Food Bank volunteers will be at the various shuttle bus stop locations and will be ready to receive all donations – food items or cash. As we can all appreciate, the Food Bank is in high demand at this time of year. The Organizing Committee shares the community support values embodied by the Food Bank and encourages everyone to make a contribution. Please bring your Food Bank contribution with you as you take the complimentary bus to the Nordic Centre or bring it to the awards ceremony at the Civic Centre on both Friday, February 5th and Saturday, February 6th.”
